We've dropped vBlogetin for the vBulletin Blog

After trying to import the data from the vblogetin blog to the new vB Blog, I've decided to just scrap it and start over fresh.

There are a few tings I really like about the vBlog and a few things I really liked about the vblogetin.

The main thing is the vblog is supported by a larger team then vblogetin. I'm not mad or upset at Ardian, I know he put a lot of work into vblogetin, but I need to be able to have support questions answered within a day and with Adrian running vblogeting by himself, I know that wont always be possible.

Anyways.. We're starting off fresh, we'll have the user blogs rewritten soon enough

Please start a blog up, test the system out, let us know if you have any questions.

I thought the vB people were going to write an import script. Did you talk to Jerry? If your database still has the vBlogetin tables, I bet he could get that data imported for you.

I second with Jim - I expect there will be import scripts.

Also, could you run both for a while to let me manually move over my blog posts? I think I only had three or four.

When I get to the house I'll post a link Mert gave me ( Lizard King).
The import script from vblogetin to vbulletin blog isn't exactly perfect to say the least.

I tried it 4 times and ended up doing a DB restore, I wanted to get the info over but I just can't waste anymore time over it.

Oh OK. I just came back here to post that I was working with impex today by coincidence (setting up a neighborhood chat forum at www.windychat.com and importing content from an old SMF forum that was hacked)

Anyway, I saw the vblogetin (and Wordpress!) importers in there, I have more work to do now :-)

They also have a vbjournal improter, but I don't know how well it works.

ps, here is a re-post that Mert did about his experience with impex

At the beginning the impex was really in a mess however i managed to get it working finally. As i said to you the problem i think you have is because of an early forum import via impex to your database. Donot drop the second blog database yet , Jerry will eventually try to fix the importer. You can read my updated Impex Exprience here. Also i strongly advise anyone to drop vblogetin and switch to vb blog. Here is my comprasion of both products http://www.ayyas.com/blog.php?b=786

I haven't deleted it, but will I still be able to import even tho we've started posted here already ?

I just don't want to lose all the data again.

I am not sure about that because vb blog impex may require clean database. By the way the above reply needs approval.

well I don't think I'll import it then, I don't want to mess things up and start over again

The blogs have been a hit so far, I don't think it will take long to get 48 entries again ( that's what we had on the old DB)

I approved the post, not sure why it went into moderation ? I'll have to watch that I guess.

vB Blog has a strange feature , if a comment has a link anywhere it puts the comment to moderation.

    Brandon,

Are blog comments open to the pubic (non members). Why bother with Amkimset if it's members only commenting?

The only thing I miss is that in vBlogetin the users can add/move modules around in their own personal blogs.. The vBlulletin version doesn't offer this that I know of.
