Corporate/School filters

anyone ever had a problem with corporate or school web filters? members getting blocked form your site?

we have websense here and it SUCKS, websense is very hard to work around and very strict. if your site shares a ip with any blocked site you are blocked, and it is almost impossible to get unblocked.

also i had a core member change jobs, and his new works blocked talkdelaware. he complained so much they unblocked it...

anyone deal with this?

We use websence wher I work and it is very restrictive. But here's something I found that works to get around it -- not that I'm condoning going around your employers back or system....

In the address bar enter https://.... even if it's not a secure site this will ususlly get you around their block for categories and other things. If the entire domain has been blocked then you cant get around it.

Try at your own risk....

I'm amazed they unblocked it for him, unless he managed to convince them it was work-related?

Re: Corporate/School filters

well I hope he's keeping his productivity up, I think many people browse at work these days (I know members of my forum do) but it's the few people who don't get their work done who cause management to block things.

Do members browse your forum at work?

Many of my members talk about how they're logging in from work to breakup an otherwise dull day, do yours? I've considered adding the "panic button" mod (kind of like a boss key for vBulletin, where you click on a button displayed in everyone's postbit to quickly jump to a page they've set in their profile) but this might fall under the category of "unnecessary mods". If your members have been logging in from work too, would they use this feature?

Re: Do members browse your forum at work?

I'd have to say that the vast majority of my visits come during traditional working hours. I've never thought of a panic button.

Re: Do members browse your forum at work?

I long added a panic button. You can turn it on and off in usercp. I was thinking of adding other buttons. Just I never got around to do it.
