Did you experience a summer slump?

Many site owners report that traffic and earnings go down during the summer, when many people are on vacation. Did this happen to you this summer? Is traffic improving now that school is back in session?

actually my traffic improved over the summer, I'm getting more pageviews than ever. (Doesn't always translate into more earnings, but...)

same here, natural growth has me on a constant upswign but once that growth levels out (i hope never) you would expect to see a downturn in activity in the outside months.

I hope so too Foxy... I definitely had a slump right before summer and the members said it was because everyone had gigs, then new people kept joining and the pageviews went up.... I hope it will get even better during the winter when everyone huddles around the computer for warmth

Re: Did you experience a summer slump?

I'm actually beginning my mini down season now. I will get a little bump shortly, but come November baseball umpire forums will come to a standstill untill about March. I'm trying to figure ouy a way to keep them engaged and coming back once the seasone is done. I'm thinking of a daily pop - quiz, but I'm having trouble coming up with about 100 different challenging questions.

2dub, maybe you could use the winter to get members to talk more about themselves and their personal connection to the game?

Re: Did you experience a summer slump?

I thought about expanding into other sports a bit and even tried opening a softball section, but in 3 months there was only 1 post with pretty aggresive campaigning on the other sites. So I removed it.

I would consider adding other sports again if I found a knowledgable person to help me there. My number one problem with going to other sports is that I don't have a passion for them and would turn this fun hobby into work.

Having people talk about themselves is a good angle. I'm also going to try and see if I can get an interview or two set up with some MLB umpires, but I think that will be tough.
