The more forum owners I talk to, the more I realize that many didn't know much about HTML or PHP before starting their forum; they just hired others to do the installation and configuration and jumped right in. Did you have any experience with web design before you got involved in running a forum? Are you learning on the job or do you outsource the technical stuff?

I knew basic html and that was it, so in the beginning I hired people to install things for me. I am in school now for web design and interactive media so the more classes I take the more comfortable I am doing my own work. I still hire someone to upgrade for me since my site is completely customized and I am just not comfortable with doing that yet.

I have known both for years. But computers and coding at one time was my field of choice. Though I have gone away from it. When I was younger i had the passion for it all. But yeah I think it helps alot knowing php. It gives you the ability to expand the use of your forum.

i ahve no background in either, and im still not a strong coder by any means, i find tutorials, and how tos and read sources and cut and paste code to amek the stuff loosk good. lots of trial and error
