Do you have any "celebrities" (major or minor) on your forum?

I don't have any major celebrities signed up (that I know of), but I have some performers and several noted instructors on my forum... and in more then one case, it seems like the children or other family members of the "celebrity" are the ones participating and probably telling them what's going on. Have you noticed any local celebrities or people famous in your particular field on your forum?

I have a couple of Disney online community 'celebrities'. One man that knew Walt Disney personally and another that hosts a podcast online and has a little following.

Re: Do you have any "celebrities" (major or minor) on your forum?

I have a politician, running for governor (just lost i think) and Joe Walther, Joe Walther is the man, he knows just about every influential person in US history and is an unimaginably intelligent, well spoken, awe inspiring writer.

Profile - Joseph Walther

The True Facts :: Main Page

I can't really put into words the appreciation I have, to have him as a regular on TalkDelaware. I have talked about him here before in regards to how he helps me if i have a moral or ethical dilemma on the site. And he gave me a nice link on his blog page

EDIT...lol THIS post is actually about a political thread on my site HERE the gloves come off here (you do NOT want to be on Joe's recieving end) CLICK and yes, they are talking about Obama's VP pick, Joe Biden

I just read those posts and you're right Caddy, they were awesome. You're lucky to have him around. (And he referred to your forum as popular! *girlish squeal*)

I have some "celebrity" lurkers who are MLB/MiLB umpires. I know because a MiLB guy I know told me. By contract they are not allowed to participate in any online discussion boards etc. Actually one MLB umpire started his own site that MLB made him take down, It was the best for the whole 3 months it was up it gave the "regular" guys access to MLB guys.

I never thought of people being forbidden to take part in online forums, why is that? Maybe they're afraid people will start questioning the umpire's decisions?

They don't give any specific reasons, but it is part of their contract. Right before it closed there started to be a few people there to challenge the MLB guys on their calls and the guy who started the site had a controversial call, which he was correct on, even ESPN said so, but fans started joining in and becoming rude.

How sad a few rude people could prevent professional umpires from participating in online forums.

The prohibition of posting online was wel before the MLB umpire started his site. MLB's stance was that it should have never existed.

He hasn't spoken about it publically. I will email him to see if I can get an interview with him after the season to see what he can say about what really happened.

BWorld, I need to check your site out a little more in detail.

I graduated from the Connecticut School of Broadcasting, but the last couple of years have been tough as I've had to stick to my full-time gig and haven't been able to pursue what I studied. Maybe need to make some contacts to get some voiceover work going!

Re: Do you have any "celebrities" (major or minor) on your forum?

That's an idea set up a forum touting yourself as the greatest celebrity ever, create a hundred or so fake users who all clamor about you get a candid photo of yourself walking out of Starbucks and make a big deal about it, get some kids or hot chicks to pose with you and load the photo's making a big deal out of it. If you could just lure people to your site you could potentially create a "wag the dog" type of situation and become a real celebrity.
