How can you control who is allowed in your forum?

Hi, i need help with an issue in my forum, recently i just sent out emails to my classmates about my forum to tell them to get involved in it. At first i was surprised so many people join the forum but i've noticed that there are many people that are not from my school and are random accounts made from different years and ages which i believe are probably some advertisement people. I get like 10 random people a day. Is there any way for me to filter or regulate the people to get into my forum.

There are many ways. For those spammers you can add hacks to reduce it. I use enhanced image captcha that does the job big time. I also do not allow registrations with free emailproviders like gmail etc. During the registration I tell them that if they do want to register with an free account, that they must contact me by the contactform. This way you filter the bad guys and the good guys send you a message.

So, that is the hard way, here is the easy way. If you only want a small group to use your board, just say 'yes' on moderate new members (vBulletin Options>>>User Registration Options>>Moderate New Members nd set it to 'yes') That way you can allow only the ones you know and delete the rest.
