I'm not talking about blatant, outright, nasty trolls. I'm talking about the pot stirrer's the ones that wont break the rules but just can't agree to disagree and will argue a point till they are blue in the face and you are red in the face.

I have had this problem recently on one of my sites and just thought i would post the question here

We haven't really had that problem, but I would say a few pm warnings, infraction, temp and full ban if it's kept up.

Did face this issue a couple of times, it is best to warn through private messaging system, instead of taking it out in the open. Generally deleting their flame baits helps and if need be, banning them altogether.

I would rather have fewer members participating in the community then have a few trolls ruin the community spirit by posting flame baits all day long.

I must say my members are good at joking around about troll posts, sometimes even kicking off a thread full of puns... this confuses the trolls, as it isn't the reaction they expected.

What's your "early warning system" like for troll attacks? I check the New User emails every time I get one (even if I'm not on the forum right then) because sometimes a troll will give himself away with his email address. And if they're smart enough to look like a regular member, several members have my main email address or even phone number to reach me in an emergency. The sooner an admin gets to the forum the better, as trolls thrive on confusion.

eh, i usually always have a staffer on site, and there is very little time there isn't one so we catch trolls/spammers/bungholes pretty quick.

well I had to ban our first troll today
It took a little over a year for our first one, who just wouldn't shut-up and read with others were saying.
It's amazing how close minded some people can be, I try to keep a very open forum but I had to kill this guy..lol

and still he emails me saying im a religious freak...

yaaaa, okay

OMG you religious freak LOL Yeah I have always went the full mile on people like that. But a good cookie made for something like that always help. Or a nice htaccess ban from the whole server LOL. That is as miserable as you can get.
