How and How Often do you Communicate With Staff?

When the time comes and I get myself a staff to work with on my site, I was thinking about how to go about communicating with them.

Do any of you specifically create special newsletters or e-mails for them on a daily/weekly basis? Do you simply create a 'private' forum and communicate via posts on there as you go along?

Any comments/suggestions?

Both the moderator on my forum are my close friends and live in the same city so meet and speak to each other on the phone quite often. For official communication or for finding out their views on a certain subject, we use a private forum, that way every one is kept in loop.

Re: How and How Often do you Communicate With Staff?

me and the higher level staff have each other phone numbers and talk sometimes, we all live in the same general area and i have free long ditsnace on my phone

as far as hidden forums, they are important IMO, very important for staff comm. this is how i have it setup

trash bin, to trash thread that might come back, only delete spam threads.
staff section all staff sees
adim section, only admin sees
in admin i have AE Detected and HTML testing sub forums. like i said a zillion times im not a coder and its easy to test in a thread how html might come out

Attachment 1010

im the only admin on my sites except my pseudo biz partner steve, kinda like my mentor, got me into forums, lives in CA so we have never met....we do talk on the phone about once a week...

I was going to ask how everyone sets their 'staff forums' up.

Interesting. Do you have them simply 'move' the thread to that forum and then you review them with or for them?

my staff is pretty good and make good calls so i kinda let them do their thing. i dont like deleting threads that people have posted in so that's kinda like the "recycling bin" so to speak....

spam threads, especially with the new tools in 3.7 get deleted. but everything else is moved to trash. i dont have any reg mods, they are all s mods so they can do it.

That's cool. Thanks for the insight sir!

I'm going to be keeping an eye out for more folks and how they set their 'staff forums' up as well.

Thanks Michael. Seems pretty straightforward.

Anyone else have ideas to share?

Re: How and How Often do you Communicate With Staff?

I ALWAYS set up a private Admin/Mod section on my forums where the site admin and mods can communicate privately. If someone is not around that much or seems to be missing then I might shoot them an email, but in general the people I have being mods are around a lot and stay updated by talking in the private forum that has been created.
