how involved is TOO involved?

as a admin, you are the admin, you are the owner, your word carries A LOT more wieght then most everyone else on your site. how involved will you get in a heated debate or a hot button issue? im talking about things like politics, religion, abortion rights, gay marriage. the topics that really get people heated.

i have my answer for this, and there really is no "right" answer, but ill let you guys take the lead on this one....

I mostly stay out of it, but if I feel people are ganging up on someone I agree with I'll step in with a comment about why I support that point of view, and that's usually the end of the conversation. If I feel people are ganging up on someone I disagree with I'll make a comment reminding people to behave themselves

Depends on the topic being discussed, if it is something that I hold strong views on, I would probably participate, though would try to remain as calm as possible while replying and try and ensure that I don’t get dragged into flame war.

I would have to say that I agree with Yogesh on this one.

Sometimes a discussion is just so good and inviting that you want to jump right in and post your 2 cents.

Re: how involved is TOO involved?

Well, my site is pretty laid back and usually stays on topic for the most part. we rarely have any major problems with flaming and arguing but it has happened a few times. everyone knows that i'm pretty much their to do behind the scenes things like work on the site, work on my coding projects, pay the bills, answer support questions and just generally help out. I try not to get too involved with each and every person's arguing, i mostly just try to start neutral and look at it from both sides until we can make an agreement. only thing that bothers me sometimes in when i do put in my 2 cents everyone agrees with me but I know that is only because i'm the admin. I would like it if people just expressed their own views or disagreed with me if they feel i'm wrong.

Re: how involved is TOO involved?

I usually try to explain the reasoning behind my position, and most people seem ok with the knowledge that I don't believe the same thing they do. Although I did manage to make one guy (who held rather extreme views) leave in disgust because he didn't think I'd manage the board to his standards, I'm not exactly unhappy about that...

Re: how involved is TOO involved?

I'm fairly opinionated and anyone that speands time on the sites that I frequent knows that. Whether it's as a Member, a Moderator or an Admin I'll jump into a discussion without hesitation because I like to actively participate in a good variety of topical discussions. If not for trading fodder what the hell are Forums for ...

I have seen FF get pretty involved in the commentary, sometimes to where i want to hold him back like "dont do it man, its not worth it!" like a street fight....
