Incentives/Gifts to "Active" Members....

Guys and gals,

My plans were to incent folks to be active and participate by offering them small Disney-related gifts based on a set number of posts that they acheive.

At 100 posts they get gift #1, 500 posts #2, etc.

I've already had two members achieve the first tier of gifts and I'm in the process of creating a certificate of appreciation along with the gifts to be shipped to them.

So, I was wondering if anyone else does this or something else to incent their members to continue to participate and keep the communication flowing in their forums.

Thats a good option if you have deep enough pockets to do this for a while. Personally I haven't yet done it, however I have run a few contests.

I give incentives to donating/supporting members. I also have a secret forum for members who have seriously made their bones on my site and i trust completely. Most all of them have over 1000 posts and i hand pick them and the forum is totally hidden, even to a staff member or admin if i think they shouldn't see it.

i use this section to poll my best members in decisions about the site, also there are quite a few fantastic writers in the group so i ask them to help me with writing newsletters, welcome messages, reminder emails, etc. It is working out REALLY well, has helped me greatly cause im not the best writer...

That is a really great idea. Do you occasionally add new members to that group or do you keep the group small? Do the members in the group that help write the email, notifications, etc.., do so on there own or do you ask them to do it each time? Do those members receive the emails, etc that they help write, or do you just send to the non-members of that particular group? Sorry for all the questions, but I am intrigued by this idea.

Thanks,
Bruce

Re: Incentives/Gifts to "Active" Members....

Well i have a thread in the section called "I need writers" now obviously i know who are good writers cause i see them post everyday. One member actually writes a news paper column and has a syndicated blog.

So i have that thread and i asked them, guys i need a good newsletter, one of my S.Mods actually wrote the one i sent yesterday. Then i asked, guys i need a good nag/reminder email, and one of the members wrote that. Now I am in need of a email to send to local biz's to pick up some advertisers and they are working on that. Totally voluntary and greatly appreciated. If they write something that goes out to all the members then yes, the author would see it.

And yes, i do add members as i see fit, the existing group has a say as well, they can nominate a new member to be included......

That is great. I think I may 'borrow' your idea. I have never been a great writer and I think having member's names on newsletters and email that come out to the community will actually strengthen my member loyalty. Great idea! Thanks.

Cheers,
Bruce

PS: Hope this did not get too off topic, ArnyVee.

argh, i hi-jacked it....

Brandon or staff can maybe break this out to like "Do you have a secret or hidden forum"

idk

as far as post milestones Arny. I just give them traffic cones (DE state flower) for every X amount of posts they have and a unique usertitle thru the promotions feature...

No, no....this is good stuff!

I love the fact that you incented those folks by giving them their own area and allowing them to get involved into some of the decision making for the site.

Good stuff!

It doesn't have to be 'gifts' to give folks, just recognizing folks (traffic cone/add'l responsibilities/appreciate thread/etc) and their hard work would do.

This is good stuff. Anyone else do anything to 'reward' their members?
