To introduce or not to introduce?
Introductions are a good way to attempt to make new members break that 1 post seal. We have talked here at vbsetup on how to encourage them to do so and the like, but how do yu actually let them do it?
1. This is ok cause you don't have to have a whole section for intro's, just tell them to make it anywhere they feel like
2. This is good if you notice your audience, members like to intro themselves as new members and core members like to welcome new members. Although monotenous it is still content and can produce a popular section. Problem with 1 and 2 are the user has to make a new thread, it seems silly but that may seem like a bit much for a new, timid, member.
3. this method plays off of both 1 and 2's weaknesses they dont have to make a thread, to them it is just making a post that could blend with the other 100 posts in that thread, no biggie.
Then again, and im just thinking of this now, what if you had a intro section, and inside a main intro thread right. on the welcome PM tell them "you can intro yourself here (link) in the intro thread OR if your feeling adventurous make your own thread in that section!"
i actually think that is a pretty decent idea....
what is your vote? how do you handle intros?
- Do you tell/guide them to make a thread just anywhere, in the lounge for instance?
- Do you have a specific introductions section of your site?
- Do you have a "Introductions thread" that is one big thread for everyone?
