Members replying to notification emails

Has anyone found a solution to the age-old problem of members replying to the notification emails instead of logging on and posting? (Or worse, going on vacation and setting up an auto responder!) Using a non-existent email address to send them from isn't an option, it won't work on my host.

Happy New Year and all that
Re: Members replying to notification emails

Yeah, I've gotten that a few times. That's a big reason why I removed the post and message snippets from the notice emails.

On my forum a lot guys use their business address for the board, some of which have auto responders. For them I just create a filter to automatically trash it.

Re: Members replying to notification emails

I've thought about removing the post from the email, but don't want to remove the whole thing. I could have sworn I've seen many boards with only the first line or so of the post in the email, but darned if I can find the option for that...

Okay computer people
Re: Members replying to notification emails

I dunno, I like the fact that they can. You see, I'm always worried that someone might have an issue and need to respond. Then again, my forum isn't SO big that it's an issue yet, you know? I would rather get a bunch of auto-responder emails than miss one member's important question...

I too get the responses to say... instant pm notification.

It's says in huge bold letters "do not reply", but then they still do.
Then i'm stuck with the dilemma of which party do I notify of the problem. I actually had one member get upset at me.... said I was "violating their privacy" by reading the email they accidentally sent me.

I reply to the email and tell them "hey, you sent your reply to me by accident, you've got to log on to post it if you want so-and-so to see it"
(of course, some people don't learn and keep doing it)
