Restricting things from new members?

Do you restrict your new members from doing certain things, like posting links or sending private messages? I've been doing this but some of the new members have complained about it

I haven't restricted anything cause i feel if they sign up and want to use a feature and get denied they may just leave. that is only because i haven't had any specific trouble eith like PM spammers or anything recently. if i were to have problems like that i would lock down some stuff and find a diplomatic way to let newbies know....

We do restrict some things, like pm's if you have under 20 posts, and they can't use the Chat room, Arcade, Plaza and can't access more of our private boards until they reach that limit. We do this mostly for security reasons and to keep the trolls away lol

I had a problem with a pm spammer, that's why I instituted the limits. I've tried to set them very low, but some of the new members already have friends there and want to pm them.
