Reverse a ban?

would you ever reverse a ban? like a permanent ban. I'm not talking about a staffer bans someone and jumped the gun and you overturn it....god willing you never have that situation.

but after banning someone, who deserved the ban, but after a while people might be asking, or vouching for him. and you decide to give him another shot...

every happen to you? (it has me)

I suppose if they wrote to me to explain/apologize for whatever the problem was, I'd consider it...

I dislike bans...I would rather put people in time out and then give them another chance. Make a read only usergroup...Let them read stuff but not be able to post or pm...Eentually when time is up they come back and get new chance

Blake, when you put them in 'timeout', how long do you keep them for?

Depends on what they did and how many times they have done it. I have always just edited the banned members group and then changed it to a new name something to go with site. And then use the usernotes to keep track of violations. Whenever someone does something wrong you put in usernotes. You can only give people so many chances but this is a really good way to keep cooler heads and keep the members

I use the User Notes feature too. I couldn't run my forum without out it, really .LOL

I've never had to ban a real member for anything or even issue an infraction... only spammers.

But I would possibly consider re-allowing the member back... after a long time though.

I think only spammers should be banned.

If it is a attack on a user I would think the users I have are adult enough to work it out.
