Now that you've been running your forum for a while and hopefully getting a following, have you considered spinning off a section of it into a related site?

I've done this once... built a directory of ice cream parlors that included zip code search, forums, etc., and then realized that for the ice cream forum to be successful it couldn't be seen as just being for New Yorkers. Started a new site for it and I think it will be more successful this way.

I've thought about this on a daily basis.

I've even encouraged my mods that they can try and sell the forum sponsorship on their assigned forums and then if they can get enough participation, we could look at putting up another forum for them to head up as lead moderator and get things going on.

We haven't done anything with it yet, but we'll see how it goes in the future.

That's a good idea Arny, would the mod get to choose the topic of the new forum or would you assign it based on what section they're working on? Would it have to be Disney-related?

Well, I have one non-Disney related forum which was suggested by one of the members. He's now a mod and is assigned that forum. It's mainly for non-Disney theme parks and general off topic items. So, he's working on a relationship with another non-Disney site (I believe it's a Universal Studios forum) and trying to work a deal where we do some posting or other assistance with each other.

For the rest of the forums, they have to be Disney related. But, they could be a variety of topics within the 'Disney' topics.

each one of my sites is a little bit of a spinoff i guess

DE started, got quite a few PA people and started a PA site. we have a lot of philly sports fans so i got some help there too
