What do you do when members die?

Have you ever had an active member die? How did the forum find out about it? What did you do about it... did you have a Memorial thread, did you send cards to the family?

This was an easy one for me.

He wasnt so much just a member of my site, but more of a father figure who I an others thought the world of. This is a link to what we put in place for him In memory of Ade, our friend

A memorial thread and some kind of plaque or something sounds about right, maybe a ribbon you can add to your sig..

that is a nice touch as well, there are lots of things you could do. one site i admined took all a members post, put them in a section with his name on it and locked it.

Re: What do you do when members die?

Once when a member was sick we made a "virtual card" thread where everyone added their best wishes, printed it out and sent it to him. (He pulled through though.)

In some cases I've wondered if members have died after illnesses, but no one came on to notify us and we didn't have contact information.

Re: What do you do when members die?

I have run into this on a few occasions, not a member dieing but someone in DE dieing and the newspaper writes a story. in the newspaper website people can comment on stories and most of the commenters are horrible little people who make horrible jokes ans such about the death.

sometimes the family of the deceased will register there to defend them, and it goes, really really bad from there.

i have had a few family members, or friends, or whatever sign up to thank my members for the NICE posts we make when the same story is posted on TalkDE.

and on the sick thing, we have a constant prayer thread that gets posted to almost daily for prayer requests.

Some people will say pretty horrible things on the Internet that they wouldn't say in real life. Unfortunate that the family would have to go through that.
