For me it was probably the time I hadn't been making regular backups and had the forum on someone else's server... they had problems with the server and restored their sites from backup, and trashed mine.. When we figured out what happened the most recent backup had been 20 days before, so I lost 20 days worth of posts and had to apologize to the members. Now I have a backup saved automatically each night.

For me it was when we were 5 months in and doing great in the rankings, I decided to "tweak" my title, which means all listings had to be reindexed. We almost didn't come back from that one.

My mistake was sort of like this. I had the forum on another person's server and hadn't made a backup at all and then their host decided to delete THEM. So I got deleted as well. Luckily I was in contact personally with quite a few of the members and was able to get mostly everyone back.

I'm not sure I have made a huge mistake yet, I call that luck though cause there have been oppurtunities im sure, and i have had to hire or ask people to help me when i thought i corrupted a database or something but i have been pretty clear sailing so far. I kind of regret now giving my NJ site to a friend, i hope he gets bored with it and i can have him give it back....

First 2 months of my forums life i decided to change the URL format within my VBSEO settings. Well that took my forum off page 1 of google for a few week's. My traffic dropped next to nothing and i had to wait it out for re-indexing.

My biggest mistake was letting someone help me on the site that really didn't know what she was doing. After she left, I had to have someone go in and clean up all of the messed up code she put in there. Lesson learned!

My biggest mistake, was when I deleted the first post of a very popular thread. I had to delete that one because it was from a banned member and nothing about the real content. I didn't read the notice about thread being gone if you delete the first post.

I had panic emails from few of my members, and the only way was to manually restore that thread from a 4 day old backup.
Imagine sifting through 150+MB database dump. It took me a whole day to bring that thread back, yet I had lost well over 100 posts.

really if you delete the first post of a thread it will delete the whole thing?
