What is your major demographic?

I know there is a thread about a demographic mod, im not talking about mods, im talking about demographics and how you manage your community accordingly.

scurt, i was gonna ask yous what google analytics told you about your age demo's but it seems they are not show (i thought they were)

regardless, you should have a idea of the age spread of your site

i know im one of the youngest users on my site at 26 and a bulk, like 50% i would bet fit the 35-50 category

with this knowledge, do you tend to run your site any different? if you know you are catering to a little bit of a older crowd, that might be not as savvy as the younger guys, do you try and explain more, have more patience with new members, etc.

I do, and im not saying my older members are dummy, alternatively i think most of them are genius (literally) but i think on the tech side of things, and with as many hacks and stuff i have, they need thourough guidance on some featrues and stuff so i provide that in my FAQ section

what do you think about demographics? what do you think your members fall into on the majority?

90% Male
65% 21-40 years old, 28% 13-21
95% U.S. or Canada
60% IE, 30% FF

The whole car scene is sort of already built for males, although we do like women to post as well. We don't really cater to any specific target market but the whole fast cars market sorta already makes us mostly male and young to mid aged.

yeah car guys who find forums are usually in the know and pretty good with tech stuff the way cars are being made now..lol

cant even fix a new car w/o a PC

My demographics are literally from age 13 to 100!

It's Disney for Pete's sake! Everyone loves Disney. Either the movies, the history, the characters, the parks, the music...I mean, it's all over the place.

That's why I have to be careful with sponsors and commentary on the site. But, it's a fun topic and something that I really love.

I seem to get a lot of middle-aged people from the Midwest. Past few weeks a surprising number of people from countries in Asia have joined though, not sure why that is but it's interesting!

most all my members are from the northeast region, but i do have quite a few people who used to live in DE or PA that sign up to chat about thier hometown

My demos (estimated) are:

Male 99%
Ages 25-55
Race Primarily white (a complete guess interpolating from the umpire community I have experienced)
Location US & Canada primarily along the 95 & 85 corridors then the west coast from San Diego to Vancouver.
Browser 70% IE 25% FF

I've compared, and those Quantcast stats are just horribly wrong on like 50% of sites, and all of my sites.

Do you really think 57% of the people that visit my car forum are female????
Their whole system makes no sense, and you really can't make a good demographic chart without more information than what people want or need to give you. Just looking at my members, I have over 90% male members. That I know for a fact, but 57% of my traffic is female??? Yeah okay...

I don't mind them trying to offer a service, but it obviously is flawed and if you're a person who doesn't know this and base much of your web usability on it you'll be burned when its wrong. Not something I want to mess around with.

I base mine on my current users and guestimate from there. It's much better than using quantcast from what I've seen.

It's sorta a double-edged sword with users. On one hand you want them to fill out those details when they register so you can have your demographics graphed out. The other hand, less people will sign up if they have too many questions to answer. I go by what people optionally put in, as a % of the whole forum, and then multiply it to get my results. It's not exact, but far more reliable than what I've seen from websites.

You can use Google analytics to compare, or any other stat programs
there are a few demographic mods that you can add as well, but that wouldn't capture the guest

Maybe there is a better demographic stats code that you can add?

after reading all this i guess i will be looking for a good solution, having demographic info can help you if you decide to go to alike a cpa network and things lik ethat right?
