What's the longest you've left your forum alone?

Caddy's post about staying connected made me start to wonder how long people have left their forums unattended. I know when I go on vacation it's usually to some cabin in the woods for a week (where I start dreaming about checking my email, lol). My last vacation was a road trip with occasional Internet access at motels, so I gave my mods a cell phone number and instructed them to call me only in the event of a server emergency. I felt little compunction about leaving the less active forums alone but was worried about the active one, when it probably should be the other way around...

Were your mods able to manage without you? My vacation went ok, but there have been times I've gone to watch a movie and eat dinner and come back to find all hell has broken loose

I intended on going about a week when I went on vacation, then after 3 days my brother-in-law arrived and had an IPhone so he let me use it to check in on the site. So only 3 days.

Its all good though, you comeback to a forum thats been promoted by the members and you have 200 new members waiting to meet you. (well atleast thats what happened with my forum

I was away for 2 weeks in June there, and a week off just there. I am the only admin and we have 2 mods, they coped well and it was still in one piece when I got back lol.

Like the others, I hate not being able to log on...the missus won't allow it when we're away lol.

i left mt site for like 5 days when i went to Jamaica last January, they were fine, my staff had it, and there was so much fun to be had...i made it out ok

lol, that would be the ideal vacation and return now wouldnt it. new signups seems to come slow in my area of the world right now though

you know, there are services for installing forums, services for posting, services for moderating... I wonder if a service for finding members could work somehow?

yes, there is, its called google....you google your keyword and forum and keyword and vbulletin and find all the members you need, then its just getting them to your site.

If I am going on vacation I let the moderators know that I won't be around and to please keep up the activity if needed while I am away. On my smaller forums I've even appointed an extra mod for the week to help make sure any spams get quickly deleted.

Two weeks for a vacation but I usually have a laptop so I can drop in every couple of days and make a couple trip updates and beer posts. I longest run with no internet would probably have to be a 4-5 day camping weekend. everyone needs to unplug once in a while.

man i totally agree you need to disconnect sometimes, but usually when you can, things are calm, you cant get away....and you can get away when things are hectic online..
