Soliloquy is a jewel in the rough
What's the most rewarding part of running a forum?

For me it's all the friends I've made. Yeah I'm making a little more than I'm spending on it, and hope to be making more in the future, but I find forums to be the easiest way of making new friends. And I stress that in the automatic emails to members, that they could make friends if they participate.

When members make a big long post about how they like the site.

When i member joins and instantly starts participating and loves it.

Making new friends.

Chase hit the nail on the head.

Someone just started a thread about how much they appreciate the work that I've put in and everyone is jumping in and giving me nice comments about the site and how we've been running it.

Always good to hear positive feedback.

Re: What's the most rewarding part of running a forum?

LOL....good point Noodles.

Luckily, I have some very generous members which have allowed me to upgrade some things on the site and pay for things without paying for them myself

I'm just starting to get some traffic on the site which is starting to result in better 'clicks' on the Google Ads. So, I just need to continue to drive traffic. I'm actually debating on whether I should purchase vBSEO to 'take it to the next level' for us.

Re: What's the most rewarding part of running a forum?

Ha! The Adsense clicks are phenomenal LOL
But truly - for me it's seeing a Writer/Poet who has grown in their craft, which is to say 2 years ago I read a writer who was a lot intimidated about her writing. She posted the other day that she had gotten a poem published and she thanked me and everyone in the Community for helping her develop her writing craft. Through all the critiquing and constructive feedback & positive commentary - It's just awesome as a Poet to help another grow in their craft.

PLUS - JPiC was recently featured in Writers Digest magazine and website as one of the 101 Best Websites For Writers 2008 List! The award "medal" they gave... It was just a phenomenal feeling - to know that others of the greater Writing Community could award the Forum I started with such an honor.

And yes - The Friends! Awesome stuff no doubt!

Jacquii.

Re: What's the most rewarding part of running a forum?

For me, it's knowing that members enjoy the site. I am so happy when members join, start posting, and then on their 3rd or 4th post they will mention something like "I am really enjoying this forum!".
Even better is when they go as far as e-mailing me and thanking me for creating the site.

I also enjoy the friends I have made. My forum is 6 months old, and I am thinking that for the one-year anniversary, we are going to have a local meetup

I don't make any money off of my site, so it certainly isn't that. lol
