Thumbs up Winter Theme Header Design.

This is a clean winter style header just in time for the holidays. grab this photoshop tutorial of a crisp winter style header design.

Step 1:

Let’s start out by creating a new file. I used a 900×300 pixels canvas set at 72dpi, and I filled my background with white color shade. Now make a new layer then draw a large gray rectangle with #E6E6E6 color shade and 900 px 134 px dimensions.

Step 2:

Under Layer Style(Layer > Layer Style) add a Gradient Overlay blending option to your gray rectangle layer.

Step 3:

Grab the Pen Tool then choose Paths under the options palette. Now create a new layer then trace out a mountain like shape shown below and fill paths with white color shade.

Step 4:

Under Layer Style(Layer > Layer Style) add a Drop Shadow, Inner Glow and Pattern Overlay blending options to your white mountain shape layer.

Step 5:

Now add a smaller mountain design behind the first.

Step 6:

Select the Horizontal Type Tool and set the font family to Arial, bold italic, 26 pt, strong and #E6E6E6 color shade. In a new text layer type your website name on the snow mountain.

Step 7:

Under Layer Style(Layer > Layer Style) add an Inner Glow and Gradient Overlay options to your website name text layer. Then rotate it through Edit > Transform.

Step 8:

If your site has an RSS feature add the logo on the snow mountain, make sure you blend it in. Now make a new layer then draw a small ellipse with #676767 color shade and set the layer's opacity level to 20%. In another new layer draw a smaller black ellipse on top of the first then set the layer's opacity level to 20%.

Step 9:

Select the Custom Shape Tool and choose the plant like shape. In a new layer add the plant like shape with #177900 color shade on the small hole design.

Step 10:

Now make a new layer then draw a brown rectangle with #4E3700 color shade and 92 px 21 px dimensions. This will be your first navigation button.

Step 11:

Under Layer Style(Layer > Layer Style) add an Inner Shadow, Inner Glow and Gradient Overlay blending options to your brown rectangle layer.

Step 12:

Select the Horizontal Type Tool and set the font family to Arial, regular, 12 pt, strong and white color shade. In a new text layer type 'Home' on your first button.

Step 13:

Add the rest of your navigation links in its own button, make sure you leave 1 or 2 px space between each button.

Step 14:

Now add a long rectangle button design at the end of your navigation interface.

This is a pretty good tutorial. Only thing I'd change is make the background behind the hills a different color to make the hills at least stand out better.
