Reputation has really no point or direction associated with it. The best thing I have seen that resembles a point is the thank you hack.

I have said from the beginning of rep, and kept it off as a result, that with that negative rep button, crap will start. And it does everywhere.

It should be given a purpose and prompt members to use it for that purpose. Beyond thank you, it seem useless.

Arbitrary good and bad rep creates clubs or clicks. That makes it hard to bring in new members and segregates members.

If it's just thanks, it is not going to stigmatize anyone while highlighting the helpful IMO.

Since I despise "Me too!" and "I agree" posts I try to encourage people by using the add reputation button whenever possible.That's the "Add reputation" button here??? I thought it was MSN instant messenger or something.

I would personally consider using a "scales" graphic instead of that. Just my 2 cents.

I've given Rep a few times.. Lately, all I get is the "must spread more rep around before giving it to USERNAME again" error// I guess the settings are too high as there aren't very many constant contributors that I've found occasion to rep.

Plus, your user CP template is a little screwy.. I can see the rep, date, and comment but not the user who gave me rep.. Normally that info is there by default... I like to know who is in my fan club.

Other than that, I do agree with Noppid. I roll out the Thanks hack on any of the forums I do. Rep is "clicky" and doesn't do much besides add more graphics to load on the page. :P
