Re: Error on the page
Hi Brandon,
Yes, it began happening the same day I posted this topic - maybe the night before. Until then, there didn't seem to be a major problem, although I do remember seeing that yellow caution icon before, but the page would still fully load. I remember looking to see if I had reported this problem before, so I could reply to that thread instead of starting a new one.
I don't use the home page for landing, so I've only been to that page recently - when you mentioned the tab hack. I am sure Mike will be able to take care of the validation errors. Just takes time to root them out. The W3 validation page will let you view the source on their page, which makes it much easier to find them on your coding application (I use WeBuild 2007), which doesn't always have the same line numbers. I have found that most all validation errors on a vB forum come from add-ons, plug-ins and webmaster modifications. The vB package validates out of the box (well, there is one known issue since the W3 updated the validation tool, but it doesn't cause these errors).
My experience, even with fellow webmasters, is that they don't usually pay much attention to errors and when they do, they don't care. It's especially stealth-like when the majority of coders and webmasters use FF for surfing because one disadvantage of FF is that it hides these errors.
Of course, I would have expected at least a couple of recent visitors to agree that page loads the last couple of days have been extremely slow. But then, you may have the settings show you have 500 active members, but the activity level on the forum is very low. I surf in and find many times there are only a few messages to read. Actually, that's only in the forums that interest me. This style makes it difficult to determine if a particular forum has new posts at a glance.
As a side note, you might consider using forumhome icons that make it easier to tell if a forum has new posts. Example:
What the icon looks like now:
That's fine, as long as there's new posts to view. But if there's no new posts...
What it would look like with no new posts:
Of course, those examples have a similar background as the forum, so they show what I mean. Here are the actual icons with transparent backgrounds (and the dark one is 2.6kb less than the original - if they were all that optimized, you could save almost 42 KB):

Ehhh, long "side-note", I know. Just tryin' ta hep ya out.

PS: Was something done? there are no errors apparent right now.
Something is different. It's working fine for the last little while.
Yes, I use IE7. I like IE much better than FF or any other browser, but I use IE, FF, Netscape and Opera when working, so I can see what's happening for ever'one else.
