First feedback

Count on ME to be the first to open his big mouth

A few pieces of constructive criticism. Feel free to tell me to bug off ;)

1. You require email confirmation. In my opinion, email confirmation has little benefit but can cause a lot of harm.

2. You do not automatically email users of new PMs. The fastest way to get ME back to a forum is when someone PM's me and I get that email. Same goes for subscriptions.

3. You *might* think about turning off tags in the off topic, intro and forums like this one. The more pristine and on topic that tag cloud is kept, the better.

Good feedback and good ideas. I don't know if I am ready to give up the e-mail confirmation. I will give it some thought though.

I will agree with 2 and 3 though

He won't do it. He has it that way on all his sites! He uses it as a background image for whatever reason he explained to me a while ago. I wasn't really paying attention, I just wanted it to be clickable.

I have tried to make it clickable but the way it is setup now it is hard.

Any css experts can take a stab at it if they wish

I see nothing wrong with not using email confirmation on new forums, especially during the process of getting the ball rolling. In fact, you might wish to enable only captcha at first (to get rid of the bots) until you get a decent membership level going. Having to wait for an email and open up email clients or navigate to webmail can be a big discouragement to getting a new member to post - and it's hard enough to get members to post when there are only a couple of posts and threads on a new forum.

If you want to keep the logo as a background for some reason, I can think of two ways off the top of my head. The first way is to create an empty <div> set to the height and width of the logo, and use JavaScript onmouseover and onmouseout to click-thru if anywhere within the empty div is clicked.

The second way is to put a clear gif the same size as the logo on top of the logo, keeping it as a background, and making the clear gif clickable.

I have absolutely no idea why you would want to make the logo a background image.

As it is right now this is the code. It is using a <h1> replacement for the image:

HTML Code:
<div id="header"> <h1><span>vBulletin</span></h1> <p><span>Discuss vBulletin SEO, Monetizing vBulletin, vBulletin Programming, vBulletin Hosting and other aspects of vBulletin.</span></p> <br class="clearit" /> </div>
The logo is called via css on the <h1> tag

This is the CSS for it:

HTML Code:
#header h1 { float: left; background: url(http://www.vbulletinzone.com/images/misc/logo.jpg); width: 329px; height: 71px; margin: 0; padding: 0; }

#header p { float: right; background: none; width: 400px; height: 71px; margin: 0; padding: 0; }

#header h1 span, #header p span { margin-left: -999999px; font-size: 1px; }
