might remove some of thevBGeeks hacks

I really like all of his hacks but now that he has gone on and someone else who already had a full plate is supporting thevbgeek's hacks I think it might be time for a change.

The hacks we have are as listed.

GAB (geek banner system)
GARS (geek article mod)
and
GAZ (our newsletter)

Honestly, I could do without the first two, and I think I could find a replacement for GAZ but I really like it if I could get the alignment fixed on the newsletter.php page

GAR's is really only used for the vbulletin link directory and our clients forums.. The client listing I could do something with the default setup pretty easily. The vB link directory on the other hand, I don't know what I could do.. I really like the idea, but it's been buggy for a while and I don't know what to do to fix it.. and support is next to none.

GAB is really only used in the header spot on the forum, I could set it up all throughout the forum but I really don't have time to, and I don't really like to have many ad's on the sites I visit, or own.

So gab will most likely go, gar's will if I can find something to replce it that is less intensive and gaz I just need to get fixed

Any thoughts? maybe soulutions for replacements

I use the admanagement mod from vbulletin.org and have nothing but good things to say about it. I'm not sure if you're looking for something like that but you might want to take a look.

If you only have banner images and links in the header and no long adsense code you can easily rotate that with a simple plugin.

But if you've got long multiline snipets of HTML that need to go, im not sure how to do it.

and that's what I was thinking, I know of some simple rotating banner scripts that I might just use.. The feature I like about what we have now, is that I can set a banner to expire on X date, and I don't have to worry about it going on and me forgetting to remove a banner.

I just got an email saying that they've released Version 2.0 of GAZ, maybe that would clear up some of your issues with it?

Re: might remove some of thevBGeeks hacks

If cost/footprint is a concern, OpenX has handled all my banner rotation for the past 4+ years... It's a little complicated to get your head around, but it's free! I'd rather pay nothing and do some reading than pay a lot for a 'dumb' advertising manager! ;)

Just out of curiosity though, why get away from Geek products anyway? Morgan, since taking over from TheGeek, has done admirably considering she also does Photoplog and vb.org and the scripts are reasonably priced for what they do...

I agree there were issues with GAZ which has left me not purchasing it 'yet' but there's no doubt I will be once all the kinks are worked out! TheGeek abandoned ship shortly after GAZ was launched so, I reckon it'll take Morgan a little bit to get it going, but if it turns out anything like Photoplog... It'll be well worth the money!

If, however, you are going to dump the licenses, give me a shout! I may wanna snap them up off you! ;)
