Re: Recent blog modification I've tried to get it working here a time or two, but easily get distracted and have never had it finished up

Re: Recent blog modification The recent blog in postbit that I linked to is dead. I should have read the entire thread before I installed it. When a member uses quick reply, the reply is posted twice. Since there is no fix, I had to uninstall the mod. I think the commercial version of magpie will post RSS and ATOM feeds to members postbit, but its around $65 US Dollars. Just to get those feeds working, I do not know if its worth that much money. Its not a "lot" of money, but that price is high for what it does. At least for my type of site anyway. For a webmaster forum, like here, or over on DP, it might be worth it. Right now I can not see paying $65 just to get a members rss or blogger feed showing up. Most of my members do not have a blogger account, much less their own site that can supply a rss feed. Unless a website has a lot of geeks as members, I wonder if this type of mod is even needed? Right now I have around 1,800 active members (visiting every 30 days), with around 500 - 700 members visiting every 24 hours. Out of that much traffic I might have less then a dozen people that have a blog, or a site that can supply a rss or atom feed. This mod sounded like a good idea, but I can not spend $65, or hours of my time on a mod that less then 12 people might even use. Then there is the keyword "might" use. I have already spent 4 - 5 hours getting different feeds to work. At some point you just have to say "it aint worth it." But then again, how badly do I want my site to be different from other websites?

Re: Recent blog modification I tried another mod using carp but it doesn't seem to work with that too. I wonder how some of the forums have got it to work. If anyone knows how to get the recent blog thing to work please share. Quote |

Re: Recent blog modification You're probably right in that most members would not use it, and I wouldn't currently pay $65 for that feature, but don't forget the "monkey see, monkey do" effect. Some members will see others with the latest blog post displayed and think "I should do that!" Quote |
