What do you think about the "latest threads" hacks ?

I was thinking about adding a hack like this here that would show the newest X post or threads on the forum or sidebar.

What do you think ? good idea, or bad idea

As long as it is just latest topics, by all means. However if you are planing to put up the hack which displays latest threads and bunch of irrelevant stats, then it would be best to avoid it.

I've seen a hack like this on another forum, it's a scrolling banner that displays the last 10 threads.

Personally I don't like it.

I would vote no...As all it is is new posts but in a more visible way...It usually doesnt help much I find...I think it works better if have a portal or homepage to show off the forum..But on the forum you dont need much showing off...Your already there..Just my opinion

I'm using the one Mike wrote but i've modified it to be usable on all pages.

However i've ran into a small problem with it, i can't figure out, no matter whats clicked, it directs everything to 1 thread

Back on topic, But yes, they are pretty nice to see, I make good use of the Unread Posts button in the navbar too
