I'm running 3.6.8 p2 on my site which is what I originally downloaded about a month and a half or so ago when I started my site. I haven't upgraded to 3.6.9 as of yet because I was waiting for 3.7.0 'stable' to come out this week.
Since that version is delayed and 3.6.10 is out (w/security fix), I'd like to upgrade it. But, I've never done an upgrade on my site and I'm a bit apprehensive.
What should I do, step by step, to ensure that this goes off without a hitch? I know that there could be the potential for a mod or two not to work exactly as it did before, but I mean overall to the site. Any help would be very much appreciated.
Thanks! | | | Join Date: Feb 2007 | Posts: 731 | Location: New Delhi, India | Re: 3.6.10 .... should I be okay? Unless you have a mod which screws up, there isn’t going to be any problem. vBSetup Team vBulletin Owner | | | Join Date: Apr 2008 | Posts: 509 | Re: 3.6.10 .... should I be okay? I need to do a full backup, good advice.
You know, I remembered that there was a board member here that was going to put together a step by step process on how to backup their forum (along with preferred or suggested programs to use) which I need to read before moving forward. Does anyone know if this was created and where can I find it? | | | Join Date: Apr 2008 | Posts: 509 | Re: 3.6.10 .... should I be okay? Does anyone know where I can find the 'book O' backup' here on the boards? vBSetup Team vBulletin Owner vBSetup Owner | | Join Date: Jul 2006 | Posts: 9,827 | Location: Topeka, KS | Re: 3.6.10 .... should I be okay? do you have phpmyadmin ?
That is where you'll go to make a backup of your database
Then, do you have ftp access to the forums files ?
That is where you go to backup the forum
you can check the includes/config.php file to find your what database you are using if you see several in phpmyadmin.
cheers

That's why I need a step by step (really dumbed down) on how to do it.
For example, it'll probably be a dumb question....but what is phpmyadmin? Is this it? phpMyAdmin | MySQL Database Administration Tool | www.phpmyadmin.net
And, by the way, I've been meaning to ask you...how do you get the 'url' option to work like it does on your boards here? When I do a 'link' it shows the actual link characters and not the title of the thread/site. | | | Join Date: Dec 2007 | Posts: 14 | Location: Edmonton, Alberta, Canada | Re: 3.6.10 .... should I be okay? Your server provider should have PHPMyAdmin on the server already. There should be a link somewhere on your account to go to your database. You can back up your database with phpMyAdmin - using Export - save onto your disc. Also backup your whole root file of v3.6.8 as well.
If you aren't experienced in upgrading, I'd wait a bit longer until the stable version of VB comes out. I upgraded my board from 3.7.0 RC3 to RC4 this week and it has caused all sorts of problems with my modifications. The new version has a Security token thing in it, and it made several of my major modifications non-functional. It's taken me 18-24 hours to get everything working again.
If you need any help though, I can try to walk you through it. It is very confusing when you don't know what you're doing!!! I don't have any computer programming background either, so its taken me a lot of trial and error to learn these things. vBSetup Team vBulletin Owner vBSetup Owner | | | Join Date: Apr 2008 | Posts: 509 | Re: 3.6.10 .... should I be okay? Someone on the vb.org site said it was called "autoparse urls"...is that right?
