Post Thank You Hack 5.1

About this hack:
One of the biggest problems on forums as you may know is 'posts boosting'. There are users who LOVE to say 'thanks' when ever they can. How can it hurt? Their post count goes up, they have nothing to loose.

There are also users who really like to express their thanks to post but don't like posting a post that looks like they're post boosting.

Then comes the moderators who have to delete people's thanks yous so a thread can look readable with out the thanks yous thrown around.

Finally comes the posters of these useful posts. They have no idea how many people really likes their posts if only some people say 'thanks'.

What this hack does is fix ALL these problems - except those users who like post boosting. This places a button called 'thanks.' When a user clicks on it, it places his username in a box right under the post saying that so-and-so says 'thanks' for the post. Every-one who clicks is placed in one box.

By giving your users the extra feature, you forum will look allot nice and organized. It is a granted liking by ALL the members of your forum.

Features:

Uses vBulletin easy Product installer/updater/uninstaller
Uses AJAX technology so your users don't have to refresh when they thank.
Places an easy to use button next to the edit button
Separate looks for postbit and postbit_legacy
Places all Thanks into one small box
Uses only ONE query every time you view a showthread page!
Users can't thank twice
Option to not allow users to thank their own post
Guests don't see 'thanks' button
Counts how many thanks a user gives
Counts how many thanks a post gets
Shows how many thanks a user gave in every post of his
Shows how many thanks a user gave in profile
Shows how many thanks a user got
Shows how many posts or a user are thanked
Shows info in profile
Search for a users thanked posts
Search for all thanked posts
Administrator can remove all Thanks from a single post
Users can remove their own Thanks
Turn on and off hack totally
Turn on and off hack for only some forums
Option to turn off hack for all but the first post of a thread
Option to turn off hack for all but the first post of a thread in specific forums
Option to turn off hack view of date for specific or all forums
Option to add to post count when someone clicks 'thanks'.
Option to give a user who receives thanks reputation points.
Ban Usergroups
Ban Users
Uses Phrases
Cache Templates
Guaranteed to be liked by ALL users on your forum!

Looks like a great hack but how do you get different color buttons to match your skins?

you have to make them, some styles will have the psd with them,, here is a button I used for the kirsh style..

I didn't make that one, but if you have the psd of the buttons, you can replace the text pretty easily

I am not trying to post boost

But you mentioned to me in another thread about using the thanks button, and I honestly didn't "get it" but now I do. I may have to give this a shot on my forums just to see if it will actually help threads have a cleaner look to them. Though, I'm not sure I mind or see a negative to users actually posting something even if it is a thanks or just a thumbs up or whatever.

Is their a negative other then aesthetically it might not be as pleasing to the eyes?

well one thing that I think is negitive is that your content will be very poor..

like here, we're trying to target "vbulletin" "vbulletin optimize" "vbulletin styles" etc...

if we have a bunch of post that are just " hey thankkkks" " good job" and very few relavent post then the keywords that we are targeting might get lost

you can add 'thanks' to not allowed words in the settings

this way people can only use the hack for that

hmmm, I'll admit, I'm not very wise in the ways of targeting and SEO as you might be able to tell. So this is all news to me. I'll have to implement and see if it helps at all.

As i already told to the creator of this mod, I'd really like to install it, but everytime I try to load the xml file, this last freezes and doesn't want to load
I'm on 3.6.4 version

If you want, I can take a look at your site.. We're getting ready to head out of town but.. I'll be back late tonight, and will be gone most the day tomorrow.. Should be here all weekend.

I've never had any problems with this, are you on a good host ? is your site freezing up because of a slow host ?

hy Brandon, even if you're going out of time, i'm not in rush and you can reply just when you can.
i installed other modifications which contained a xml even bigger than the one in Thanks mod, so the problem is not the host (which, anyway, is quite slow), but it's something else; I can only imagine that it freezes reading an instruction inside the xml file.

i have the exact same problem,i did the 'import from server'
Installed but didnt work.

It means you need to login to vBulletin.org

I've seen this used at edugeek.net and think it works very well. It also focuses attention of forum members on giving thanks when a good post is made.

I've added it to my teccy forum now; don't think it will get abused there and it does make it easy to see who's thanked the OP.

Would it be possible to let guests leave thanks?

(I know, bumping an old post, but it's relevant -- hack is still current.)
