Back ups... best practices

Just thinking about back ups on my nice new shiney board....

What do you guys use?

At the moment I am backing up manualy as I make quite a few changes durng the day but will do a daily back up once sorted all the modifications etc.

I use the vanilla back up from ACP, but after setting up a second test board I found I couldnt restore from the original for some reason kept getting sql errors. I am sure this must be possible, but I couldnt get it to work, could be that i was putting into a new directory?

so I finaly exported the data from the original database using myphpadmin and imported it into the test board using the myphpadmin.

This is fine but if I cant get my regular back ups to work whats the point of doing them.

Also myphpadmin seems to have an upper limit 51MB I think and i'm already at 9Mb after 5 days so this is soon to be no good.

I dont use ssh because I havent set this up on my new server yet but even if I did not sure how to use it, have seen that a lot of people use this, But as I'm not comfortable with mysql as yet and command line stuff scares me as I know you can seriously mess things up with it.

So what do you guys use? whats your disaster recovery plan as I need to have one as I would hate for all my hard work to get lost because of some script kiddie

We use an auto backup mod by Ken at vBulletin Modifications

Let me know if you can't find it, I'll get the link.

I wouldn't use the backup from the vb admin panel, the phpmyadmin one is much better IMO.
