Best way to grow a forum?

I've recently launched a new forum, HaloNation.net and I've found that I've only got a small trickle of people. I realize that it has only been 4 days since installation and only 2 days since official launch, but I'm looking for tips to grow more quickly. I'm attempting advertising on select forums like Bungie.net & forums.filefront.com that both have an advertising area, but they simply get buried after a day.

I'm really want this new forum to succeed, but since this is my first public forum, I'm in the dark for marketing tips. (My other forums have been private, friends invitations). Any hints or tips that some of the veteran administrators can offer to drive in traffic?

Re: Best way to grow a forum?

Easier said than done! I know most forums don't approve of advertising and stealing their users, but I'll check around for more forums where I can go about promoting.

Re: Best way to grow a forum?

Also you need to post regularly in your forum to ensure there are enough interesting topics for people to participate who do turn up at your forum.

Best way of promoting your forum would be to post in related forums with a link back to your forum.
