Greek76, please let us know how well it works with 3.7... I'll have to decide whether to pony up another $25 sometime

Re: Classifieds for 3.7 Is anyone charging a 'listing' or a 'final value' fee on these classified ads to offset the cost of the software?

Re: Classifieds for 3.7 I wanted to encourage people to post inexpensive handmade stuff, so I didn't set up any fees. (Although I told my members I reserve the right to do so in the future.) I suggested allowing people to charge a fee for items over a certain amount and free for the less expensive stuff, but I don't think the owner has added that option yet. Quote |

Re: Classifieds for 3.7 ArnyVee, We've had it up and running for a couple of weeks and overall the members are enjoying it. ATM I'm not charging a listing fee but have made it clear I will charge for "Featured" (and Featured will be the one with the most exposure on the board) and reserve the right to in the future if needed but it will be minimal and sponsors get points to use towards listings automattically. Currently I have no intention of charging a FVF since I see this more like a "Flea Market" or they're the auctioneers so basically I'm only charging for the space they use. As an X-eBay, flea market, & B&M seller and auction lover it never made sense to me to charge a FVF unless it were a flat rate perhaps. Maybe I'm odd in that but I don't see why I should get more because a seller sells a $100. item versus a $10 one.. since it doesn't cost me more to have it there. Quote |

Re: Classifieds for 3.7 I'm with you LadyG, what made eBay great at first was the low listing fees... everyone could sell their litttle items easily. I want my users to create and sell little things as well as major items Quote |

Re: Classifieds for 3.7 So, there are 'featured' listings on this Classifieds software? That's good. I understand about the FVF, but I was just curious how folks were using it. A 'featured' listing makes sense and to charge a nominal fee (any suggestions?) for it would probably make sense to that seller. How would one pay you for the 'featured' listing fee? PayPal? Is there a 'moderator' option so that the item is not officially listed until you 'approve' it (after confirming receipt of payment)?

Re: Classifieds for 3.7 Soliloquy, I take it you sold or still sell on eBay, too? :-) If so then you may understand when I say I really do only want to be "just a venue". ![]() Most of what's listed so far on HOW is handcrafted and probably will be heavily mostly because the board is geared towards small and hobby sellers and buyers and artists/crafters are normally that and (IMO) that's what eBay seems to be pushing out increasingly. Many are "refugees" from a now defunct old, very large and active online trade board (heavily eBay oriented) that closed it's doors last year. BTW - very nice looking forums. :-) Your banners on Chic Petite and Disabled NYC are particularly nice. I've thought about starting another board or two but not sure if my energy levels are up to the challenge. (I have MS.) Quote |

Re: Classifieds for 3.7 Arny, if you take a look around my board I have it set up that only "Featured" gets the extra visibility. Here's my write up on fees, etc: SERVICE: New Classifieds & Auction System! - HOW Cafe Please feel free to take a look around, it's all open to the public to look at. :-) Although I don't moderate listings any more then have my self or mods wander around, you can moderate it just like the rest of the board. It's a very well written and thought out program IMO and the fact that it can integrate into the rest of the board to no or a great degree is a nice option. :-) It's not free but I looked around a LOT before going with it and although there are a couple similar okay "free" options out there (not to mention some very pricey ones).. I'd rather pay a bit and feel secure in that I can offer my members something truly integrated, easy to use, automated and clean looking. :-) Quote |
