Click before using Quick Reply?

All my forums currently require a click before using the Quick Reply feature, and I always figured that was some kind of security measure prevent accidental posts. Like when your cat walks over the keyboard or something. But I've enjoyed the way it's set up here, that you just have to click in the text box and type your reply instead of hunt for the little Quick Reply buttons. I'm thinking of removing the required click on my forum, but before I do so is there any reason I shouldn't?

Re: Click before using Quick Reply?

I always suggest setting the quick reply not to require a click, but then I'll also put the lowest editor on the quick reply.. then the next editor on the quick edit, then the full WYSIWYG editor for the advanced edit

Re: Click before using Quick Reply?

i never require click for quick reply, makes everything easier and less clicking. the goal on a site is to make it as easy for the user as possible.

Re: Click before using Quick Reply?

I completely agree Chase. There's no reason (that I know of) to force folks to hit that extra click.

As a user of forums, I did not like it when I was forced to do this. So, I made sure to fix that as soon as I opened mine four months ago.

Ah, so that's the reason the required click exists in the first place. Well I don't use that type of thread mode, so I guess it's time to free my users from the extraneous click

Re: Click before using Quick Reply?

I agree with everyone that quick reply shouldn't really need a click from a post to activate in most cases.

might as well, and if your posting with a sig link people might think "hey, that guy runs a site, and that is a good suggestion, he must know what he is doing"

Re: Click before using Quick Reply?

I didn't realise the click part could be disabled - how do I go about doing that? It'll make it a lot easier.

Re: Click before using Quick Reply?

I just turned off Click to Reply on my Forums. Do you guys know of anything else that would keep people from posting or signing up? Is it possible for you guys to make a little top 10 reasons your site SUCKS list?

I hope it doesn't really SUCK, but if there's anything else I need to change, I'd love to hear.

Re: Click before using Quick Reply?

i understand your developing a new favicon, as it is now, it sucks!
viewing your site as a guest the 3 links in your welcome message (which i think is genius btw) don't work, that sucks! (x3)
stock vB statusicons, suck!
"visit the forum" buton confuses me cause it's is only a forum (root domain is forum home) that sucks! (change it to just "forums" maybe)
although obvious from the nice header image you are on a BB forum, the welcome message is the stock one, sucks!
no im confused, as first i saw a good welcome message with a image, now i see the the stick welcome, confusing

that's all i got, you ask for it, its all in fun, im not a a$$hole really, regardless of what others say about me.
