Which comes first?

I'm trying to get someone to create a searchable php mysql database for a catalog i.e cars for my forum. I have a designer who's interested in the project but doesn't know how to code the database. I have a programmer that can do both code and design, but is not as proficient in design as the other guy. So is it possible to separate the two jobs? Who should start work first?

Thanks.

Re: Which comes first?

Sorry. Let me clarify. I'm looking to have a website on my forum that is sort of like a product catalog.

Home page: Search field that users can use to search with titles, text descriptions, and quick facts of the product within the database. They can also use an advance search to define their criteria like (size, price, color, etc). Also, if users don't want to search, they will be able to click to view the records (all, or A-F, G-Z, etc)through a thumbnail index which includes a picture and brief details of the product.

Thumbnail Index: Will contain picture, name, and short blurb about the product. Each thumbnail product will open to a product profile.

Product Profile: Includes 4 pictures, 1 large, and 3 thumbnails that will switch places with the large one when clicked on. The page will also contain quick summary, and then a full description.

Backend admin panel
: Control panel to perform changes (add photos, update entries, add new pages, change layout) easily without additional programming.

I hope that makes sense.

I guess this can be done with little modifications to the existing photogallery scripts.

Edit: you might want to look at ReviewPost as well.

Re: Which comes first?

Hmm, thanks. I don't think Review post is what I'm looking for.

I'm really looking for a product catalog database that is searchable, displays products in an thumbnail index on a clean page design, and then opens to an individual profile. I was told it would be ideal to have a designer make the page "flare" layout first, and then give it to a programmer/coder to do the data base thing. Not sure if that's the normal process or not...

Yep normally you have to agree on the design and layout first, then the layout (usually in PSD format) is forwarded to the coder so he/she can build the backend.

Thanks Yogesh, that is exactly what I needed to hear. Going forward with this project later this month.
