Commbull-style newsletters?

Many people advocate sending out a weekly or monthly newsletter to attract members back to the site, and though I think it's a fabulous idea in theory I have no idea where I'd find the time. I've heard of mods like Commbull (not sure if that one is still around, even) that automatically send things out with the latest threads, but that actually sounds like too much automation; what if it sends out threads I don't want highlighted? What if I want to include a special message? Are there any mods that just really simplify the process by creating the newsletter for you buut allow you to edit before sending?

Commbull went commercial from 3.6 on. I haven't even looked at it because I can't find the cost of it.

Hey Big Dan, could you post an example of the newsletter Commbull generates? Are you happy with the way it works?

Re: Commbull-style newsletters?

I've haven't generated one in almost a year. However here is an archive copy of one on my forum, this section is open to the public.

News and updates from Our DJ Talk - Our DJ Talk - DJ Help and Resources Chat!

One thing to note; My forum doesn't normally look like that, look at any other thread and it looks a lot better. Due to the way the newsletter is generated I have to on HTML postings for the forum in which the newsletter goes to which in turn seems to mess up the style sheet.

The first post on that thread is the newsletter as generated. If you look through the thread you can see people saying they didn't get it and some that did get it got part of it without being parsed. I'm really surprised that the developer hasn't stayed on top of things. I mean it shouldn't be too much trouble actually get the email to send to all defined user groups especially for a paid mod.

Another hack which I've been considering is the "Geek Gazette" it's $50 which is a little steep but everyone raves about this guys work so more than likely it actually works.

You know, I've been to the vBgeek site but never really checked out GAZ. Looks pretty good.

Re: Commbull-style newsletters?

Any new newsletter options out there. I'm getting ready to get my newsletter side of things kicked off in the near future and just making sure that I don't miss anything. GAZ is still $49.95, but seems like a good option.

Any others?
