Connecting two forums?

Is it possible to "connect" two vBulletin forums so that people registered in one forum would also be members in the another? More specifically, I'd like the members in one forum "A" to be "contained" within that forum, while members (of a specific user group) in the forum "B" should be able to access forum "A" as if they were registered and logged in there.

I haven't looked into this yet myself as I thought of asking first whether someone would have any thoughts on it.

Thanks for any insights!

I'm a little bit confused... But if i get things right, it's a bit tricky what your trying to do. Donno if impossible but the way i'm seeing it, you want 2 forums, probably on diferent domain names... and a shared members database? It can't be done like that but there are ways around it... You have one database and hide categories and forums or make them inactive and make them accessible from another location?

I'm sure i made you confused

Yes, that's exactly what I was thinking. I gave it some thought after my post, and I think you're right, it's not very easy. At least the 'user' table would need to be shared between the boards while the rest of the tables would be specific to each forum. Without hacking the code that can't be done. I think what I'll probably end up doing is to set up a cron job that synchronizes the user databases (based on a specific user group) once in five minutes. That way the databases can remain separate and no hacking is needed.

Re: Connecting two forums?

Yes it is possible. However, I have researched this issue myself. If you search through the threads at vbulletin.com a subject came up about this. If you use two different domains for the forum, you must have two licenses. So, yes it is possible, but I would contact jelsoft and see if your license allows you to do that.

Don't want your vbulletin license pulled.

Re: Connecting two forums?

Yes it's very possible and is exactly what my current client is doing with 18 forums so far
It's all been custom coded and I think that's the only way to get it done.
Find someone who is good with php and vb DB's and it shouldn't cost to much, 100-120$ or so maybe.

Re: Connecting two forums?

You can run it very easy with a cron job. Simply make a script, php wise, to sync your users. You`d just need to record the last user id, and the number of entries from each forum, to know where to start syncing next time from.
