Dangers of buying a used vbulletin license?


At some point I want to make a personalize club forum for myself and others in my local area. I don't want to spend another $160 for a license, so I've always seen some used ones offered for sale. What kind of things do i need to worry about? I assume once the license is transfered the original owner can't do anything with it because he no longer has access to the account after vbulletin transfers the info to me right?

People can scam you out of money by not transferring the license and I don't think Jelsoft would do anything about it. It is always better to buy new license or buy it from some one you know personally.

Once the license is transfered from A to B does that mean all is fine then, or does user A still have access somehow?

Once it's transferred they have nothing to do with it. I believe it goes into a new account over at vbulletin.com but I'm not positive on that one.

I guess once the license is transferred it is all ok, but getting the license transfer to take place is the problem, since most of the people would want payment upfront.

You should also ask for the written consent from Jelsoft. Any transfer has to be approved in writing.

Interesting. In order to transfer the software license, people have to submit a support ticket. I think that's where the Jelsoft gives permission of the sell/transfer. Hmm I'll look around and see if I can find a reputable person to buy it from on the forums.

^^ yes find a person who has a name in the community or someone who does that can vouch. You will need a username on vb.com i think so they can transfer it. this is how i bought my first license (used)

I agree.

I would not buy it from someone on digitalpont, there are to many scammers, unless you know them personally.
