Did you install vBulletin yourself?

Did you install the vBulletin script yourself, use Jelsoft's professional installation service, or hire a third party to do it? (And if you hired someone else to do it and you don't mind sharing, how much did they charge?)

Re: Did you install vBulletin yourself?

When I decided to go with the vBulletin software, I started shopping around for a hosting company. One of my questions to them was whether they would be willing to install the software for me at no charge. Well, the company that stepped up and answered my inquiries quickly was the one I went with. They installed the software quickly and I hardly had to do anything at all to get things started.

They were so quick to respond initially that I figured that they were either VERY good with their customer support (which I had heard before I inquired) or they were really desperate for customers!

Either way I win because they would be taking care of me going forward. I've had a couple of hiccups as far as downtime (the most was like 5 minutes one night) and the rest of the time it's been great. Since signing up with them, I have upgraded my original account and then setup a second one for my social networking site that I'm designing.

Re: Did you install vBulletin yourself?

I've personally never come across a hosting company willing to install things for me, always did it myself. They sound like they have great service.

Re: Did you install vBulletin yourself?

I installed it myself, too.

Since I spend a lot of time giving support at vBulletin.com, I have installed it for free for many people.

Re: Did you install vBulletin yourself?

sometimes it's easier just to install it for someone rather than answering questions about how to ftp, etc.

Re: Did you install vBulletin yourself?

Before i started a forum, i had a web directory and that was when i first learned how to FTP and install stuff to my hosting account. At first, i had many questions about doing all this but learned a lot from my mistakes that caused a lot of downtime.

Installing vBulletin for the first time went threw easily since i didn't make the same mistakes i did in the past. One mistake was editing the config.php file (I completly screwed that up). Letting someone else handle the upgrades is always nice since you don't have to not worry about taking the time to make the backups...etc

After you do the upgrade over and over again it's a breeze. lol
