Emberased to ask but I have to

On my forum, I have gone through the admin panel and I thought I had selected that when new member’s sign up they are not allowed to display a signature. Well new members have signed up and they are still able to display/add a signature.

The question is, how can I stop all users (with the exception of the one's that I pick and choose to have a signature) be removed and how can I set it so that new users are not able to display/add a signature?

Again perhaps a really silly question but I'm stuck, I've spend hours trying to figure it out and no success.

Please help.

well vbseo released a conditional signature, where they have to have more then x characters in a thread to have their signatures displayed, it also allows you to exclude certain users and user groups. Or you can just enable/disable per group in the usergroup options, but thats all or nothing.

you could make a sepcial usergroup with signatures and disable the new member goup and then make a promotion with the condition when allowed to have a signature

then promote all to the new member group and then let to the promotion cron do it's job.

Or it will be manually go in each account and disable it ... good luck if you have several hundred members

There is a hack at vb.org (not the vbseo sig conditions one) made by Cyb - that will allow you to limit sigs to usergroups, as well as several other restrictions like being able to post live links and viewing items.

If you are talking about Cyb - Advanced Permissions Based on Post Count - vBulletin.org Forum then it only disallows images/links in signatures, not signatures themselves.

As far as I can see Eric's suggestion is the best for your situation.

Re: Emberased to ask but I have to

I'll take a stab at helping but i might leave some stuff out. Either way, the more time you spend playing around in the admin panel the better.

1.) First, enter the admin panel and select the "Usergroups" on the left hand column

2.) Now select "Add New usergroup"

3.) At the top of the page you'll see a pulldown that says "Create Usergroup based off Usergroup:" ; Select Registered user in that pulldown. Name the usergroup "no sigs" or whatever you'd like so you know what it is.

4.) From there scroll down the page about 3/4ths and you'll see a Signature Permissions section. Adjust according to what you want (if you dont know what one is, click on the "?" image on the far right of it)

5.) Look at the other options if you'd like through the page and adjust them as well.

6.) After that, save and go back to the left hand column and select "promotions". Then click, "Add new promotion"

Use these Settings:
Usergroup: Registered Users
Reputation Comparison Type: Less Than

the next 3 options are your choice, but if you wanted to have a user be able to have a sig after say 50 posts you'd do it like this:
Reputation Level: Make it blank
Days Registered: also make blank
Posts: 50
Pulldown: Posts
Move user to usergroup: (use the one you just made and named)

Hope that helps and works, if not we can tweak it.
