How do I lock the forum but still have posts viewable?

Is there a way I can prevent anyone registering and also prevent members logging in to post; but still have all temporary posts viewable to members? I want members to be able to see the setup of the new forum whilst I am waiting for the backup from an old forum to be installed in my new one?

Or how do i lock a thread?

Lampwick.

You can stop the Registered USergroup from being able to post in any forum

You can disable new registers in vboptions, and you can limit the usergroup like bdude said, or you can lock the forums in forum permissions.
