How do I set subscription cost to 0

Is it possible to create a subscription cost of $0? The idea here is to have special Free Promotional Subscriptions that will expire after a specified period of time such as 30 days, 60 Days, 90 Days, etc.

I would also be nice to be able to have some way to automate it that didn't go through Paypal or other payment system, but I'm not sure how to do that. I don't want to allow people to do it anytime they want, maybe just available for a specified period of time or via a link I might send them.

Anyway, ideas, code samples, maybe a feature I'm missing that is already built in, or add-in products, etc. would be great.

Thanks.
