How much warning do you give your members when there will be downtime?

I'm planning a massive upgrade/new feature addition for Saturday morning while several members are away at a convention, and warned the members last week to watch cartoons that morning. Already they've forgotten the downtime was this Saturday, so I think it was too much warning. how much warning is a faiir amount of warning?

I give them at least a couple of days in advance. Then, send a note the day of as a reminder.

24 hours to 48 hours
In my case a bigger warning doesn't work cos i tend to find out more pressing work to do on that day and in the end cut a sorry figure lol

Chase does seem rather 'gangsta', as he puts it.

I mean, it goes without saying...but someone with a Ron Burgundy icon could be nothing short of a pimp.

I usually do updates late at night too, like one or two a.m., but this one will involve so many template revisions I know I won't want to work on it when I'm tired

I did one early in the morning and listed a 'downtime' of approximately 2 hours just in case.

Well, it took more than that. So, don't put a time limit in case you stumble across some issues and it delays the 'downtime'.
