How often does Vbulletin Update versions?

With the last update, and some comments about the potential difficulties with template updates when vbulletin upgrades to the next version, it got me thinking about how often does vbulletin update their software? It scares me because I have no idea how to update these things if it gets complicated. Then throw in a custom skin..oh boy, I think I'll be over my head.

I don't think there is a time line on when Jelsoft would introduce a new version of vBulletin. Also it is only with the major revisions that one has to modify the templates.

That's what I'm afraid of. Anyone know when the major revisions come about? In fact, why do the new versions come out?

To fix the problems found in previous versions and to add new functionality.

Isn't that the truth.

Can't really predict Jelsoft's updates. Sometime it will be months, other times it can be a matter of days if something major happens. I'm happy that most mods continue usability and not too much is substantially updated that affects the extras. Templates = pain.

Boy ain't that the truth. Right I'm worried about getting paying for a skin designer and having my vbulletin skin outdated in the next month. Even though I know you don't have to update, and can update the tables and templates with some work with the designer, I really don't want to touch it. Anyways, I hope their update either occurs now, or at least a year from now after I get a custom skin.

If you stay update on upgrades, they go smoother then taking big leaps of templates.

a designer might give you x amount of time with updates too. most updates you don have to do anyway. i have a bunch of templates not updated and you can't tell

from 3.6.7 to 3.6.8 i DID have to revert the quickreply template though as the QR box was tiny and funny looking.

Re: How often does Vbulletin Update versions?

Some of the minor template changes can be done by you, the template I am running on my forum is made for 3.6.7 and the quick reply and advance reply use to come out real small once I updated to 3.6.8, but I just made the changes that were posted on vbulletin.com and its working fine now.
