I want to learn, but what do I do?

Okay, I posted before about my lack of knowledge with Vbulletin. I want to learn how to do things, like add skins, add banners, and all that fun stuff that really excites the members. Also do the healthy stuff for it, like doing good backups. I don't know where to go to learn. Don't just say, play with it and learn, because I know me. I would play with it, and screw it up beyond repair. Is there a book? I read this site a lot, but even a lot of what you post is above my head sometimes. I need simple, basic, how to.

Also, what do you work on your sites with? Frontpage?

Adding skins is easy, it's modifying the headers, graphics, etc. that is hard. I'm like you, with no knowledge or direction of how to proceed. I've been using this forum as my personal tech support, and so far they've been very helpful as I learn how to do what you and I both want to do. I've setup a test forum (separate from the live forum) and practice the changes on there.

How to add skins?

1) Follow the directions that come with the skin. Usually it's uploading the images folder directly into the forum directory (where ajax, announcements.php, attachment, etc.). After that go to admincp-->style manager-->download/upload styles-->now upload the skin's XML file.

2) Adding your banner requires you to edit the PSD photoshop file, and replacing what you need and saving and replacing the image in the folder that you uploaded.

There's a book on ebay. Maybe check out this thread about it:Vbulletin e-book on ebay

Anyways, for me it is a learn as you go process with using this forums as the main support group/information.
