| Re: Impex Issues Ok, after getting the whole entire database uploaded, I have no idea what I am doing. I just want to merge. I did what it said and it said it worked correctly, but nothing showed up. |

| Re: Impex Issues after the ImpEx, you have to rebuild your counters... everything is invisible because vB use cached data, and ImpEx is not caching the new data |

| Re: Impex Issues If I remember correctly, you need to have 2 existing databases before you can use Impex to merge them together...I could be wrong though, it's been a while
IF what I think is true, then don't worry about Impex yet - first, get the two databases loaded onto your server. If you can't do that, something's wrong with either your database dump or the way you're importing the databases.
IF what I think is not true, then I'm not entirely sure...

| Re: Impex Issues Yeah I have actually had a few people ask about impex recently and I think I would hire a pro to do it.
Do you also use impex to convert a phpbb forum to vbulletin? |

| Re: Impex Issues i've been hired many times for that kind of situation, ImpEx is never easy to deal with... and i always have to work on test databases before making a move... people always tell me "i want this done in 5 minutes, i know you can do it in 5"...
when i read this, my only answer is: if you know i can do it in 5 minutes, why don't you do it, simply? i will not do it in 5 minutes, i will take an hour or two if needed, and i will backup your dB twice if i feel it is needed. if i can not backup your dB, if i can not take my time, if i can not reconfigure your vBulletin for files support, sorry but you will not have me to do it, find yourself a geek that will charge you 10 bucks, who will steal your database and will surely break everything before leaving.
merges are easy when you've done hundreds of the same systems... ImpEx is the worst import engine i've ever seen, with all these processes and strange codes only one guy at Jelsoft know about... nobody at Jelsoft can support the ImpEx but the coder who did it... that's really a show of incompetence... the IPB import engine is built the same way as the rest of IPB, same for phpBB... so any coder can take a look and debug.
and yes, it could be possible to import passwords that are not in the format of vBulletin... Jelsoft guys are just too lazy to code this 5 lines system... *(plus the code for each password encryption, like phpBB, IPB etc) for comparaison of entries... and deactivate this stupid salt/hash engine in javascript. |

| Re: Impex Issues Yeah merges are pretty simple. Just make sure you read on vb.com before you actually do it and make sure you do it on a test database first like Nex said. |

| Re: Impex Issues I just want to say that after screwing up many times on my test and never doing it successfully, I attempted on my main forum. LUCKILY, I backed up right before I used it each time. Took me 3 times, but the third time was my lucky charm because I figured it all out. I screwed up because of a bad backup, which on the third time, I got a new one and because the move thread tool confused me. |

| Re: Impex Issues Yeah, its not hard, but massive thread move tool is very sly. Having a great backup is needed too. Thankfully I found it in the manual how to do it in phpmyadmin and my host imported it for me. Great works. I can do it now! |
