Large Attachment Solution - maybe I can FTP file and then Point to It?

I have some 6 and 10 MB attachments, and I can't seem to get past the 2MB PHP upload limit (without involving my ISP).

As obvious solution would be to FTP the files to a directory on the server, and then just point to that location.

It doens't seem to be supported by vBulletin - Is there a simple hack for that?

This is in a "Plus" member section where everyone can read the text, but only paid subscribers can access the downloads.

I am thinking one easy thing to do would be for the "attachment" to be an .html or even just a text file with the URL to the download?

I would rather just keep it simple an not use a separate downloads manager.

This is how I did it with the html attachment.. it is set to

Content-type: text/html

Single State Mapper - MapPoint Forums

You should have to be registered and upgraded to a "Plus" member to view the attachment.. can you see it as a regular user or guest? If you want to view it as a "Plus" member to test let me know and I can upgrade your account.

You could always ssh to your server and edit the php.ini file And change the upload limit..Though if you do not know how contact host

Apparently the security does not work with html or something... so I switched it to a zipped html file.

Re: Large Attachment Solution - maybe I can FTP file and then Point to It?

I created a folder in the root of my site called 'large_downloads'.

If I have something that's above the upload limit, I zip the file and ftp it straight to the 'large_downloads' folder.

Oh I also forgot, I have the Download II mod installed so this makes it easier. There is a function in the mod to link to the file instead of uploading it and this is how I overcome it. (see pic)

Re: Large Attachment Solution - maybe I can FTP file and then Point to It?

I looked at Downloads II, but I wasn't sure...

Does it let you link to a file which as an attachment to a regular post?

Or does Downloads II only give you a separate Downloads section that is not part of the regular forums?

I guess I should try it..

Thanks,
Eric
