question??
Re: Limited Guest Viewing - Has anyone tried this hack ?

Well I haven't seen an increase in new member registrations. So maybe I'll uninstall it as well. Also I'm concerned about the bots not being able to read the content. So while I think the author of this hack meant well, in real life it just doesn't work as expected.

I now have conclusive evidence that this hack stops bots.

Within 4 days of turning it off the number of Google indexed pages has over doubled from 2200 to 4680 after sitting at a stagnated level for months.

In the 12 hour overnight period another 320 pages were added to Google with 5000 in SERP's.

Re: Limited Guest Viewing - Has anyone tried this hack ?

I think it's pretty obvious that this mod would stop spiders. They are after all just guests.

Maybe if you own a big board and you're already heavily indexed and you know you're getting a lot of traffic and you want new members but other than this...I don't see how this mod can help you, search engine wise, in anyway.

Re: Limited Guest Viewing - Has anyone tried this hack ?

I installed it and seen a nice increase of new registers. Main gain is the people who lurk have no choice but to login to do what they do best LURK. Now they show up as recent visitors and I can somewhat keep better track of who's using the board.

I like it best when posting "How To's". I will purposely use the "first post hack" as an outline then post the technical parts and photos in the second posts.

You can see how I give the viewer no choice but to register if they really really want to view the rest of the thread. "How To Build A Studio Portrait"

EDIT: I lied,, I have that section totally invisible to visitors... :-0

It pisses me off when I get to a forum that uses that mod. It has never made me want to join

7240 now ... so you can see by the post dates how many pages are getting indexed since I switched it off.
