Limited Guest Viewing -- Improve community registration rates - vBulletin.org Forum

I'm thinking about using this, but wanted to know if anyone had anything to say about it.

Thanks

Yea, I was using it not sure if I am now though. But it works pretty good set the number of post you want the guest to be able to read before they receive a message telling them they have exceeded their limit and must register to continue reading..

I think I had mine set at like 3 post...

I don't use that one, but one very close to it. I only use it one of my sections and the can read the first 35 characters.

I might check into the you posted.

Have you seen an increase in registrations since you installed it?

I don't like the idea, your content should make them want to join, not the mystery of "is there more better stuff i can't get to? let me see"

Like I said, I only have mine in one forum topic and they can see the headline, and the first 35 characters. I don't have a problem with it, would I want a whole forum like that? Nope!

I'm going to pass on it, I'm just to worried I'd lose indexed pages.

Yeah. Search engines are guests unless you somehow give them their own account (). But for now having them only view some threads or a certain amount of characters will limit their indexing.

There is also another hack that limits the threads a guest can view. This means you could get a lot of "register to view" messages in Google's index.

Couldn't agree more!

And why risk search engines not enjoying it either.

How does it tackles search engine spiders? Last thing you want is to limit the ability of spiders to index your forum.
