I've seen some forums that have a sort of main page when you connect to them. They have the most recent threads, shout boxes, etc... instead of the main forum categories page.

How do I turn this on, is it a mod or what? I'm using vB v3.7.3

You're probably referring to the vBadvanced home page.

the "main" page as you described isn't something you can "tun on" with the default VB
As Arny said, you might be thinking of vbadvanced, or you can do what we did and use a wordpress blog for your "CMS"

cms= content management system.. or "main page" as you called it
