Today a member wrote me with a problem; he was often getting an error message saying he was banned when trying to read threads, then later he'd return and be able to read them as usual. A little googling determined that this could happen when there were carriage returns instead of spaces in the ip ban list. I did a search and replace to fix this (man is my ban list getting long) and it seems to be working again for that member. But now I'm wondering how I prevent carriage returns from getting in there?

i don't think you can prevent a carriage return in a field, it would be serious coding i think, just remember not to do it...

A lot of the bans are done through the One-touch Spam Ban and Clean-up, I wonder if that's how they're getting in there.

Great... I had removed all the carriage returns from the banned list, then banned another spammer and removed that new carriage return... and now that member is getting the banned ip message again, and I don't know what's causing it

do you get a lot of spammers and the ip ban is really effective?

i dont get many spammers with nospam! or human verification installed and i dont really use the ip ban list.

Think we figured it out... seems he was using the AOL browser and the banned messages disappeared when he switched to IE.

I use NoSpam but get a lot of human Nike spammers from China.
